We emphasize this throughout the article.

I also wanted to report what might be possible based on the current research for dietary interventions. The most promising findings were from the case studies on how the paleolithic ketogenic diet with vitamin D3 supplementation affected subjects who have type 1 diabetes.

While on this diet, the subjects did not need insulin at all. One of the subjects was found to have a marked increase in C peptide level indicating restored pancreatic insulin production and some degree of disease reversal.

Here is a link to the case study:

“many studies show the decrease of LDL cholesterol over time has shown to eliminate ailments such as type 2 diabetes” — Where exactly do we make this claim? I can’t find it anywhere on the website, but if it is there, we will change it immediately. This statement is inaccurate and misleading on so many levels.

Thanks again for your feedback.

I actually had to clear things up with the researchers that conducted the case studies because it was unclear how much insulin production was restored. Unfortunately, I missed the strong wording of the above sentence during the final edit.

Here is a direct quote from this article that accurately reflects our position:

“But what about reversing type 1 diabetes? It is highly unlikely that this is possible. According to the current evidence, the most that a diet can do for a patient with type 1 diabetes is halt disease progression and reduce their insulin needs. In cases where the patient is still able to produce some insulin, it is possible for them to be taken off of insulin medication completely with the help of the right diet and healthcare professional.”

I’ll make sure we edit the sentence you mentioned to be consistent with our updated findings and writing throughout the article.

Thanks again for your comment.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your keto journey, Sharma. Wishing you all the best moving forward 🙂

Ghee will work, as well as lard, tallow, and other animal fats. Just make sure they are sustainably sourced and pasture-raised for highest quality.

I suspect that avocado oil and olive oil will also be healthy cooking oils to add to the diet as long as the person is not sensitive to them in any way.

Don’t use butter at all, as it contains trace amounts of dairy protein that may be problematic.

Thank you for pointing this out. The reason why I don’t have a disclaimer is that there is plenty of research on children with epilepsy and some on children with cancer that show the keto diet to be safe for them as long as they meet their calorie, protein, fat, and micronutrient needs.

I also mention multiple times throughout this article to work together with their doctor. I would never recommend people, especially children, with this condition to make these dietary changes without it being prescribed and overseen by their doctor.

If you have any other concerns, please let me know.

Carbs are certainly not needed for growth and development, but if you do have kids with diabetes it’s always recommended to monitor them with their primary care doctor/endocrinologist. We have many warnings on our site that we are not doctors and to always consult with a doctor before making any large changes to diet.

About a cup of berries (especially blueberries) would be a great option, and making sure he eats a big enough keto meal before going to work should help keep his blood sugar stable.

However, I suggest working closely with his doctor. It may be best to use the non-keto options that are typically recommended for people with type 1 diabetes to get blood sugar levels back up in the short term and follow the Keto diet as a long-term strategy to manage his blood sugar levels with less insulin.

This is what they found in one of the case studies that I mention in this article.

This would take some experimentation and close monitoring. Around a cup of keto-friendly fruits (like blueberries and raspberries) may work, but it’s best to seek guidance from your doctor regarding this condition.
